| Clinical Utility |
| The rapid rise in hcG serum levels after conception makes it an excellent marker for early confirmation and monitoring of pregnancy. Detection of very low levels of Beta-hcG does not rule out pregnancy. Beta-hcG values double approximately every 48 hours in a normal pregnancy. Patients with very low levels of Beta-hcG should be retested after 48 hours.
